Where is the location of Commencement?
Commencement will take place at the Wellness and Athletics Center in the Event Gymnasium.
How long is the Commencement ceremony?
The procession of students begins on the campus at 9 a.m. and the ceremony usually ends around noon. After the ceremony families and graduates are invited to a reception in the SLTC.
Where is the reception?
The reception will take place immediately following Commencement in the Student Life and Technology Center in the Nannie Worsham Performance Hall and the East Patio.
Do I need tickets for Commencement?
Yes, seating in the Event Gymnasium is for ticket holders only. Tickets are not mailed to students or families. Graduating students are responsible for picking up their guaranteed four (4) tickets from Christy Coker, SLTC 220, on May 7 and 8, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
How many tickets will each student receive?
To collect four (4) graduation tickets, a student needs to provide his/her student ID, confirm graduation registration, and complete the mandatory exit interview for all departing students.
How can I get extra tickets?
Students may sign a waiting list requesting additional tickets that is available the entire spring semester in Christy Coker's office, SLTC 220. Each year there are often additional tickets available due to graduates electing not to walk, students not meeting eligible criteria needed to walk, as well as other reasons. Those tickets are not counted and made available for disbursement until May 9, based on the waiting list.
How does seating work?
Seating is first come. Doors to the WAC will open at 7:15 a.m. for seating in the Event and Rec Gyms. For those who don't have tickets, the Ceremony will be telecast live in the Rec Gym, where seating is available. Students will process and recess through the Rec Gym. The telecast will also be available in the Student Life and Technology Center and online at the Hendrix website.
Plan to arrive at the Wellness and Athletics Center Event Gymnasium by 8:30 a.m. Please add extra time to your trip to allow for traffic on campus and parking. Since it is a long morning, there is a vending machine in the WAC to buy snacks or you may bring food and drink into the lobby area only of the WAC.
Can we take photos and videos during the ceremony?
Members of the audience who wish to take photographs or video a degree candidate as he or she receives a diploma may approach the east end of the stage shortly before the name of the student is called. Faculty Marshals and security staff ask that all photographers from the audience limit themselves to one person per degree candidate and that they approach the stage from the east side of the gymnasium.
A professional photographer will take a photo of each graduate and, at a later date, make commemorative pictures available.
Who is the professional photographer, and what is his contact information?
The professional photographer is Tom Lieblong of Arkansas Candids. Contact Mr. Lieblong at www.arkansascandids.com. All graduates will be photographed and will be sent proofs with no obligation to purchase.
