Research the employer or graduate school you are targeting.

  • Schedule an appointment with Career Services to ensure your career file is up to date.
  • Update your résumé and have it critiqued by a Career Services counselor.
  • Consider an internship that relates to your career interests.
  • Read at least one book on career planning recommended by a Career Services staff member.
  • Explore at least three career options available to you through your major.
  • Start working on cover letter writing skills.
  • Review the progress you have made in learning four or more of the skills employers look for in new hires.
  • Attend on-campus career fairs and employer information sessions that relate to your interests. (Check the Career Services calendar of events for more information.)
  • Identify organizations and associations in your interest area for shadowing opportunities and informational interviews.
  • Begin to collect recommendations from previous or current employers.
  • Narrow your career interest areas.
