BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- Hendrix College junior guard Cal Rose was 4-of-7 from behind the arc and tallied a game-high 22 points, while junior forward Michael Bertrand posted a double-double in the Warriors’ 86-53 win over Westminster College on Friday night in day one of the Rhema Tip-Off Classic.
The victory completed a two-game sweep of the Blue Jays as the women’s team posted a 70-50 win over Westminster in the 4 p.m. contest. The Hendrix men now stand at 1-1 on the year and will look to move past .500 when they take on host Rhema College on Saturday at 8 p.m.
The Warriors managed to stretch their lead to 13 points with five minutes remaining in the half, however, the Blue Jays brought the score to 32-29 by the end of the first 20 minutes. The first six minutes after the break remained close until Hendrix broke away with 14 minutes remaining and eventually lengthened its lead to over 30 points by the end of regulation.
Rose (Blytheville, Ark.) was 8-of-14 from the field and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. Bertrand (Dallas, Texas) posted 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds on the night, while senior forward David Foley (The Colony, Texas) added another 14 points to the mix. Junior guard Janson Hightower (Owasso, Okla.) and senior forward Andrew King (Dallas, Texas) dished out four assists apiece.
