Patrick MacDonald enters his sixth year at the helm of Hendrix cross country and track & field.  Since arriving at Hendrix in the summer of 2004, MacDonald has transitioned the Warriors into one of the most respected teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Confernce.  He has coached 32 student-athletes to All-SCAC honors, including two NCAA Division-III All Americans (Jerry Maldonado and Julie Coats).  MacDonald has also led three track & field stars to post SCAC Championship all-time records in the high jump, 3,000-meter steeplechase and 400-meter run.

MacDonald continued his record-setting career over the 2008-09 season in both cross country and track & field.  The Hendrix women's cross country team ran for their highest finish ever in the SCAC Championships and sent two runners to the NCAA D-III South/Southeast Regional Championships, including a National Championships qulifier in Lolly Plummer.  The men's cross country team had its best finish in the SCAC Championships since 2002 and also sent a pair of runners to the Regional Championships.  In the spring, Hendrix posted one of its best performances in over 10 years at the SCAC Championships.  The Warriors set a bundle of new NCAA D-III school records with the women finishing 5th and men placing 7th overall.  The Warriors picked up seven All-SCAC performances in the 2009 championships and set school records in the women's 400 meter, men's high jump, women's 1,600 meter relay, men's and women's 400 meter relay, and men's 400 meter.  Caitlin McGeehan represented Hendrix in the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 400 meter dash and took 14th place overall.

In MacDonald's first season at Hendrix, he managed to stabilize the cross country team’s slow decline in conference competition and helped guide Julie Coats to an eighth-place finish at the SCAC Championships, the first All-SCAC team member since 1992.  Coats then went on to finish seventh at the NCAA D-III Regional Championships, missing the NCAA D-III Cross Country National Championships by seconds.  She and senior Matt Sickbert brought in All-Region honors.

The momentum from MacDonald's first fall season carried into the spring, where new school records were established in six events.  John Gray and Julie Coats earned All-SCAC honors in three events, including Coats’ new conference record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Coats went on to compete at the NCAA D-III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the steeplechase, finishing sixth, good for All-American honors, the first in the program’s NCAA D-III history.

Prior to coming to Hendrix, MacDonald served as assistant cross country and track & field coach, and assistnat athletic director at Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas) for three years.  In addition to his cross country duties, he served as the Tigers' head distance and steeplechase coach throughout the track & field season.  MacDonald spent his second year at Trinity as the assistant athletic director of facilities and events.  During his three year stint at Trinity, he coached two athletes to three All-SCAC Championship titles and three NCAA D-III Outdoor Championship qualifiers.

MacDonald is a 2002 graduate of Washington University (St. Louis, Mo.), where he was a University Athletic Association Conference Champion and four-time National Championships qualifier.  MacDonal won the UAA Conference Championship in the 3,000 meter run and qualified for the National Championships twice in the 10,000 meter and twice in cross country.

MacDonald holds a United States of America Track & Field Level 2 Certification for endurance and jumps.
