Courtney Johnson

CourtneyCourtney Johnson, Admission Counselor, is an Arkansas native and graduated with distinction from Hendrix with a degree in Studio Art and a minor in Spanish in 2012. Her interest in photography, anthropology, and creative writing led her to create a documentary about rodeo culture in Arkansas that was displayed alongside other student documentaries at the Cox Creative Center in Little Rock. Over the course of six months Courtney photographed and interviewed rodeo participants across the state and created a photographic exhibit as well as a book with extended commentary titled Rldin' & Ropin': Rodeo Culture and Tradition in Arkansas.

Outside of the classroom, Courtney was a staffer of the Troubadour, Hendrix’s yearbook, and spent two years as the Editor-in-Chief. She also participated in Student Senate as the Media Chair, managing student media such as the yearbook, newspaper, literary magazine, and radio station. Through the Odyssey program Courtney was able to explore her interests in art, design, and technology which lead to a deeper understanding of the connections between the subjects.

When she is not out traveling and meeting with students Courtney spends her time photographing people and places in Arkansas. You will also frequently spot her in the darkroom where she develops and prints her latest photographic works from film. When the weather permits, Courtney enjoys taking advantage of the Natural State’s many outdoor offerings.  She also likes to spend her spare time playing video games, reading, participating in pub trivia and watching cute corgi videos on the internet.
