The Franklin Literary Society was formed in an attempt to further the intellectual and developmental aims of the College.  The purpose of the Society is to foster and refine debate, critical and independent thought, service, awareness, all worthy genres of literature, composition, and oration, and to enrich and enliven the Hendrix community through a perpetual and spirited discourse in order to prevent the stagnation and blind acceptance of unexamined ideas.  The current Society is a revival of its predecessor of the same name which existed from shortly after the founding of Hendrix College until being disbanded in 1930.
