Student Senate
homepage.gif (2019 bytes)

All Hendrix students are members of the Hendrix Student Association. During the spring of each year, the Association elects a president, vice president, and two senators-at-large. A third senator-at-large, elected from the pool of freshmen and newly transferred students, is chosen by the new students in the fall. To represent the individual residence halls and the students living off-campus, seven senators are elected in the spring by their respective constituencies. Presidential appointments subject to the Student Senate's approval include a recording secretary, a treasurer, and a presidential assistant. These three officers are nonvoting members.

Among the Student Senate's many leadership responsibilities are the allocation of funds from a $125,000 student association budget, making some 70 appointments to College committees and other student groups. Student Senate uses its power to form various standing and ad-hoc committees. Throughout the year, the Student Senate communicates student opinion on matters related to institutional policy to the faculty and administration and aids in the direction of co-curricular activities in order to develop the most effective educational environment possible.

Campus Kitty is a Senate sponsored week-long series of fund-raising events held during the spring of each year. Each residence hall and several campus organizations sponsor various activities in conjunction with the Campus Kitty Committee. The Student Senate selects a Campus Kitty Coordinator to oversee the week of fund-raising. Proceeds, in the past, have gone to charities such as HAVEN, Evans House, Inc., and the Faulkner County Ministerial Alliance.

Social Committee
homepage.gif (2019 bytes)

Social Committee, or SoCo, is the leading social programming organization for the Hendrix community. The committee is comprised of representatives of each living area of the college (residence halls, houses, apartments, and off-campus) and each class. The executives are appointed by the Student Senate and include a chair, secretary-treasurer, and four area directors. Our goal is a simple one: To better the social life of each and every Hendrix student. Our primary method of achieving that goal is by offering diverse events. Our events include drive-in movies, foam dance parties, coffeehouses, comedians and comedy troupes, free bowling nights, live band karaoke, and events featuring various novelty attractions, such as mechanical bulls and water slides. Additionally, we plan major annual events such as Faux Rush Week, Hendrix Formal, and a major spring concert event. Check out our calendar for more events. Social Committee is a standing committee of the Hendrix College Student Senate and is funded by the Student Activity Fund. This year the committee was allocated $100,000 for student programming.
