Kinesiology – from the Greek words "KINEIN", to move, and "LOGOS",
to study
Kinesiology refers to the study of movement. In higher education, kinesiology
is an umbrella term used to describe a multifaceted field of study in which movement
or physical activity is the central focus. Physical activity includes exercise for
improvement of health and physical fitness, sport, dance, and involves special populations
such as, children and the elderly.
Our Department embraces liberal arts education, using it as a foundation to promote
life-long learning and service to our students. Additonally, we believe the Hendrix
moto "unto the whole person" includes a lifelong personal commitment to health and
wellness.
This is a very exciting time for our Department. In the Fall of 2007, we moved
into our new 95,000 square foot, 22 million dollar
Wellness and Athletic Center. The move has provided unprecedented opportunities
for program growth and development.
