CONWAY, Ark. (Sept. 12) -- Hendrix College suffered a 3-0 loss to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) foe Rhodes College, despite a 10 save effort from junior goalkeeper Alyssa Havens on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Warriors stand at 1-1 overall after the SCAC season opener and will now look ahead to their Sept. 18 game at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.
Rhodes cracked the scoreboard in the 28th minute when sophomore Libby Jones put the ball past the keeper off junior Lindsey Gurkovich’s first assist of the game. Sophomore Chelsea McLeod then scored the second goal of the game on a penalty stroke in the 50th minute of play. Junior Hillary Relyea connected with just under three minutes remaining off another assist from Gurkovich.
Junior defender Heather Newell (Aurora, Colo./Grandview H.S.) led the Warriors with three shots, two on-goal. Junior forward Abby Coleman (North Kingstown, R.I./H.S.) added two shots on-goal, while sophomore midfielder Lauren Thorburg (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran H.S.) and first year forward Kelly Rappe (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre H.S.) both had a shot on-goal.
