SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 5) -- Trinity University shot 55.6 percent from the field and used a balanced scoring attack with five players in double figures, to hand Hendrix College a 56-78 loss Friday night at Sams Gymnasium.
Hendrix falls to 6-12 overall and 3-9 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) action, while Trinity completes the regular season sweep and improves to 9-11 overall and 6-6 in league action. The Warriors will now bus to Georgetown, Texas to take on Southwestern University on Saturday at 8 p.m. CT.
The Tigers led all the way, however, Trinity did not stretch its advantage past 10 points until 12:30 left in the second half. The Warriors came within one point of the Tigers’ lead on three occasions in the first half and trailed 24-28 at intermission.
Trinity used a 13-2 run over a three minute span to lead by 20, 64-44, with 6:56 left in regulation. The Tigers eventually led by a game-high 24 points with 56 ticks left on the clock.
Warriors’ sophomore guard Ammon Martin (pictured) (Conway, Ark./H.S.) led the team with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Senior guard Cal Rose (Blytheville, Ark./H.S.) added 13 points and four 3-bombs, while junior guard Ryan Rizos (Allen, Texas/John Paul II H.S.) scored seven.
Trinity was led by junior forward Sam Dworkin with 17 points and senior center Peter Garatoni was close behind with 14 points. Senior forward Bryant Wilson collected 12 points, junior forward Luke Caldarera had 11 points and senior guard Mike Tobolowsky was the final Tiger in double digits with 10 points.
