CONWAY, Ark. (March 26) -- Hendrix College sophomore DP Jaclyn Herrera went 4-for-4, scored two runs and drove in three, while sophomore SS Hanna Braden and first year 2B Sydney Selby both went 3-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the Warriors to an 11-3 win over University of the Ozarks on Thursday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Warriors improve to 10-11 overall, while the Lady Eagles fall to 3-13 on the season. Hendrix will hit the road this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against Southwestern University on Saturday and Sunday.
The Warriors jumped out to a 9-0 advantage after three innings of play with three runs in the first, two in the second and nine in the third. Herrera (Mount Vernon, Texas/H.S.) picked up her first RBI of the day in the opening frame, while sophomore RF Ellen Burr (Jacksonville, Ark./H.S.) highlighted the second with a two-run single. Herrera drove in her second and third runs of the game on a two-run base knock to right center in the fourth.
Warriors’ first year RHP Jessica Mabry (Russellville, Ark./H.S.) retired the first nine batters she saw to hold the Lady Eagles scoreless in the first three frames. Ozarks put two runners across the plate in the fourth inning on four hits and one error.
The Lady Eagles made it a 9-3 affair by scoring once more in the fifth before the Warriors put the game away via the eight-run rule by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Herrera led off the fifth with a double down the left field line and traded places with first year 1B Liz Vaughan (Garland, Texas/Greenhill H.S.) when she doubled to left field. Vaughan advanced to third on a single to left and raced home on sophomore LF Brooke Monson’s (Wetumpka, Ala./H.S.) game-winning sacrifice fly to right field.
Mabry improved to 3-5 with the win after 5.0 innings, five hits, three runs (all earned), one walk and three strikeouts. Ozarks junior RHP Stephany Henson fell to 1-6 with the loss.
